Lory Student Center Theatre Renovations

Fort Collins, Colorado
$4,410,000 • 2011
Client: Colorado State University

The renovation of the 1962 Lory Student Center Theatre was designed to create a unique destination for students within the social hub of campus activity that is the Lory Student Center. Integral to the theatre renovation design process has been a focus on 21st century student needs. Redesigned for small concerts, movies, banquets, lectures and small vendor fairs, the 19,500 sq. ft. theatre will become more flexible and desirable than the existing fixed-seat theatre.

The existing main level and balcony level raked seating will be removed and the space transformed into a flat floor, multipurpose facility with a wraparound balcony. The north wall of the existing theatre will be opened up to create a dramatic new entry at the main level, with glass at the balcony level overlooking the central courtyard of the student center. Sculpted wood and metal wall panels will dramatically modernize the space while being responsive to the original character and heritage of the theatre.

The Lory Student Center Theatre renovation will be completed in 2012, celebrating its 50th anniversary. This project is the first phase of an extensive, multi-phased master plan for renovation and addition improvements. Aller•Lingle•Massey Architects P.C. worked in conjunction with Perkins+Will on the theatre renovation phase of the project.

Ruby Hill Park

Denver, Colorado
$700,000 • 2007
Client: City/County of Denver, Colorado

Design of a new $700,000 "signature" overlook pavilion with restrooms, part of the $6 million master plan of improvements to the historic regional park. The master plan includes major vehicular roadway changes to return the park to pedestrian uses and maintain the popular Winter Railyard sledding hills, including a major north-south promenade with demonstration gardens that connect major park functions.

Phase 1 of the master plan includes $4 million of improvements including the pavilion, themed playground, active recreation uses and a new major entry roadway. The pavilion design features a series of roof blades that fan out and up to embrace the sky, in response to the celestial theme of the park design.

Later phases will include renovation or reconstruction of the swimming pool, improvements to the baseball and softball fields and construction of a new natural bowled amphitheater and scenic overlook structure.

Aller · Lingle · Massey Architects P.C. worked as a consultant to Russell+Mills Studios on this project and provided full architectural subconsulting services.
